Putting your purpose to work is an act of resisting the natural stream of conformity while persisting in your purpose. Otherwise, you’re at risk of being overrun with worldly entanglements and entertainment.
Unlike the blue or the red pill choice in the movie The Matrix, being on-purpose reconciles two different “realities” into a meaningful whole. Like in The Matrix, the majority of people are catatonic or confused about purpose.
The “blue pill” or before-purpose experience of brain and body serenely encapsulated in a protective pod appeals to Maslow’s hierarchical pyramid of base need for security, comfort, and predictability. Resignation to a purposeless “good” life suppresses the human spirit and leaves one bitter and blue.
The “red pill” or after-purpose experience from knowing your 2-word purpose calls the soul to life. Purpose flips Maslow’s pyramid and fills the void with specificity.
The inner turmoil of a “blue-red”existence leaves the mind furiously racing from security and actualization and back in an unresolved marathon on Maslow’s pyramid of needs. Possibilities battle practicalities like, “If I pursue my purpose, how will I pay my bills?”
Fortunately, purpose harmonizes the past and the present while informing the future. Purpose taps the wellspring of your spirit to release an otherwise dormant dimension of power and energy. Purpose is peace and calm in the rat race. Rather than deny or shame your past, purpose transforms it into the foundations of your emerging character.
The subtitle to The On-Purpose Person says, “Making Your Life Make Sense.” That’s it! With the eyes of your heart wide open, it comes down to a simple choice: Will I persist with putting my purpose to work? Or not?
